9. Isaiah Rashad – 4r Da Squaw

Isaiah Rashad had a massive 2016 including the release of his debut studio album, The Suns Tirade, which featured 4r Da Squaw. Rashad spits over a smokey instrumental that provides vibes on top of vibes.

8. J. Cole – Everybody Dies

In what turned out to just be a promo track for his new album, 4 Your Eyez Only, Cole goes at everyone from OG rappers afraid of change in Hip-Hop, to “Lil’ whatever” rappers.

Cole can seriously spit and with Everybody Dies he makes sure that we don’t forget it.

7. Vic Mensa – There’s Alot Going On

Vic Mensa pours his heart out for 5 minutes on the title track to his 2016 EP, There’s Alot Going On. Vic raps about everything from the abuse of his girlfriend to his numerous drug addictions.

With a killer flow and relentless spitting, Vic Mensa’s There’s Alot Going On is one of the most honest songs of 2016.

Anderson .Paak makes everything look easy. Anderson .Paak makes everything look good.

His trademark vocal inflections and nuances are in full flight. Wrap that up with the idiosyncrasies in his flow and he creates a modern masterpiece with Levitate. No one can replicate what Kendrick does.

3. Mac Miller – Dang! (feat. Anderson .Paak)

No Problem is a happy-go-lucky shot at record labels that features 2 Chainz and Lil Wayne. With a gospel sample turned hip-hop beat, No Problem is quite simply one of the most fun records of 2016. So many vibes.

1. Kanye West – Ultralight Beam

The textures in this song are one of a kind. From the sudden introductions of the gospel choir and heavy kick drums, to Chance The Rapper’s unique cadence over the top of the instrumental genius. Ultralight Beam is truly beautiful and it is the number one song on our list.
