It’s far too often that artists on the come-up don’t get the recognition they deserve, here are five underground Australian Hip-Hop songs that deserve more shine (Part 3).
POPPY – OCEAN
Melbourne-based artist Poppy has just dropped a brand new single, Ocean. Poppy displays her ability to put together a beautiful song, with strong melodies and quality songwriting. Over simple, yet engaging instrumentation, the Melbourne rapper delivers hypnotising, nonchalant, verses that enhance the powerful, emotionally-charged hook.
Ocean is a song that is well-and-truly shortlisted as one of our favourite songs to come from this year.
CHRIS SKELLY – SAY IT
Say It features smooth vocals and a minimal, tonal delivery from Melbourne emcee Chris Skelly that are as hypnotising as they are impressive. In addition to Skelly’s slick flow, the chorus is equally as captivating, with the spaced-out hook giving the vibe-heavy electronic production space to shine.
Chris Skelly has all the skills necessary to blow-up, and we can’t wait to see if he can top Say It.
GAMIREZ – ALRIGHT
Featuring a ridiculously catchy hook, poppy piano samples and a wicked bass-line, Gamirez‘s new single Alright is a fun, trap-influenced banger that deserves much more shine. Gamirez spits with style and ease on the track, flaunting his energetic charisma throughout.
Gamirez is one to watch for the future, and Alright is his best track to date.
IAMJ – MY SET (FT. QUADE)
Young Adelaide rapper iamj has come through with a crazy, hyped new song, My Set, featuring fellow Adelaide emcee Quade. iamj and Quade team up over hard trap production, by way of Brnts, fusing rap with a unique, screamo-esque delivery.
iamj’s new, hard and distinctive sound is a welcome one, and his style is something you can’t sleep on.
SAFITHEBOY – JAPAN (ft. 30SIDELOUIE)
SafiTheBoy and 30sidelouie bring the HEAT on Japan. With memorable melodies and bars alike, SafiTheBoy straight up bodies the polished, trap-inspired production, along with 30sidelouie. The exciting young rapper is taking his music to a new level, which is evident with this latest single, and he’s set to take the Hip-Hop scene in Australia by storm.
