After stepping away from music for a while, the Sydney emcee has come back harder than ever with what is already one of the most slept on new releases of 2017. From the outset, the opening (and title) track shows a more organic and fierce side of J that we had previously not seen, one with a particularly raw and revealing undertone that remains across the Mixtape.
Delivering idiosyncratic flows, witty wordplay and smooth multi’s throughout the project, J captures your attention from the opening bar of the project until the final RnB-inspired banger, Piñata.
In between these two tracks we’re gifted with a number of slow-tempo, yet animated, anthems as well as a killer Manu Crook$ collaboration on Young Pablo, which is undoubtedly one of the highlights from the project.
The tape kick-starts what is a triumphant return to the scene for Lazy J, with the project spending its first week inside the Top 10 iTunes Hip-Hop Charts, and now, J looks set to eclipse that feat with every future release.
