18-year-old rapper Dex has made hit after hit over the past 12-months, which included singles Rooftops, Viewbank and Purple Flames, however, God Damn (premiered by Triple J Hip-Hop Show & AUD’$) is perhaps his biggest and best anthem to date.
With grand production by way of Dom Cork and accompanying visuals by Que Film Collective (who just don’t seem to stop), Dex spits relentlessly with a chip on his shoulder that we have rarely seen from the young Melbourne artist.
On the other hand, new-wave Brisbane spearhead I AM D comes through with an honest yet fiery verse that has the D bringing a trademark delivery along with some highly quotable, and impressive bars. “BNE on my back, like we fucking siamese” is a personal favourite.
Dex’s artistic direction is one that cannot be pigeonholed, as he continues to develop his sound at a rapid rate. Never content with playing it safe, both Dex and I AM D are two of the most appreciated and talented rappers that this country has to offer, and God Damn is a stunning glimpse at not just the future, but the now.
